Race Predictor

Predict your race times for various distances.

Enter the values and review the result.

Calculation assumptions

  • *Predictions use the Riegel endurance formula and assume appropriate training for the target distance.
  • *Real race results can vary with course, weather, terrain, pacing, fatigue, sleep, and training history.
  • *Results are estimates, not medical or coaching advice.

Enter your values and press Calculate.

Results and breakdowns will appear here after a valid calculation.

How Predictions Work

This calculator uses the Riegel formula: predicted time = recent time x (target distance / recent distance)^1.06. It models the way endurance pace often slows as distance increases.

Example: a 25:00 5K predicts roughly 52:09 for 10K, assuming training and endurance are appropriate for the longer distance.

Safety notes and common mistakes

Race predictions are planning estimates. Course hills, heat, wind, fueling, sleep, fatigue, injury, and pacing can all change actual performance.

  • Do not assume a fast short race automatically guarantees a fast long race.
  • Use a recent all-out or honest race effort for the best estimate.
  • Do not ignore course conditions, training specificity, or recovery.
  • Use professional guidance before intense racing if you have chest pain, dizziness, heart conditions, medication use, pregnancy, or medical concerns.

Accuracy and limitations

Calzivo tools are built for practical estimates, conversions, and checks. Some tools use standard formulas or simplified assumptions, and results can be affected by input accuracy, rounding, units, local rules, or changing official requirements.

Results depend on the values you enter and any simplified assumptions used by the tool. Verify important results before making decisions or submitting official information.

How to Use This Tool

Use these steps to enter the right inputs and interpret the result correctly.

1

Enter the distance of a recent race you completed.

2

Enter your finish time for that race.

3

The tool will predict your times for longer distances like 10K, Half Marathon, and Marathon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Race Predictor and how to read the result.

How accurate are these predictions?

They are estimates. Accuracy depends on training, course conditions, weather, pacing, fatigue, and whether you are prepared for the target distance.

What formula does this use?

It uses the Riegel formula, which predicts time from a known race time and the ratio between distances.

Can I predict a marathon from a 5K?

You can estimate it, but the result may be optimistic if you have not trained specifically for marathon endurance.

Which recent race should I enter?

Use a recent race or time trial that reflects your current fitness and was run with steady effort.

Why did my actual result differ?

Course profile, heat, wind, fueling, sleep, stress, fatigue, pacing, and training history can change race performance.

Is this coaching advice?

No. It is a performance estimate for planning and should not replace medical or coaching guidance.
