What this conversion does
A browser worker reads the visible worksheets in the XLSX package and renders their stored cell values into a landscape PDF. Large sheets are divided into row and column ranges, and every generated page is labeled with its sheet name and rendered range.
What the PDF preserves
The renderer keeps visible cell text and stored values, merged ranges, bounded row heights and column widths, and a limited set of font, fill, border, alignment, number, date, and percentage formatting. PDF text remains selectable when the built-in fonts support it.
Expected output
A visible worksheet containing item names, amounts, and a stored total becomes one or more PDF pages of selectable cell text. If the complete grid does not fit, the tool creates additional pages for the next row or column range rather than shrinking the full workbook into one page.
Limitations and common failure cases
Not a full Excel renderer
Hidden and very hidden sheets are omitted. Charts, drawings, macros, active content, external links, and complete Excel styling are not reproduced. Pagination and text wrapping can differ from Excel.
Formula and font limits
Formulas are not recalculated. A stored result is used when present; otherwise the unresolved formula is shown as text. Unsupported scripts, symbols, or emoji are rejected by the built-in Helvetica-compatible PDF fonts.
The selected workbook is read and converted in a browser worker; this conversion path contains no workbook-upload request. Normal site resources may still load, so browser processing is not a confidentiality guarantee. Review every generated page before relying on or sharing it.
Frequently asked questions
Are hidden sheets converted?
No. Only visible worksheet records are rendered; hidden and very hidden sheets are omitted and counted as warnings.
Are formulas recalculated?
No. The converter uses a formula's stored value when available. A formula without one is rendered as unresolved formula text.
Are charts and drawings included?
No. The output is generated from worksheet cells and supported cell styles, not Excel's chart or drawing layers.
Will formatting match Excel?
Only the supported style subset is used. Themes, complex formatting, and Excel's exact layout engine are not reproduced.
Why can page breaks differ?
The converter paginates bounded row heights, column widths, and merged ranges against its own fixed landscape page size.
