Square footage formulas
Rectangle area = length x width.
Wall area = wall length x wall height x number of walls - door/window openings.
Total with waste = area x (1 + waste % / 100).
Cost = total area x cost per selected area unit.
Worked examples
A room that is 12 ft x 10 ft has an area of 120 sq ft.
A 10 ft x 8 ft wall is 80 sq ft. Subtract one 3 ft x 7 ft door, and the net wall area is 59 sq ft.
If a room is 120 sq ft and you add 10% waste, total planned area is 120 x 1.10 = 132 sq ft.
One square meter is about 10.7639 sq ft, so metric areas can be compared with US material pricing after conversion.
