This calculation treats entered body-fat percentage as the proportion of total weight attributed to fat. The remainder is an estimated non-fat or fat-free mass value.
It is not a direct measurement of skeletal muscle. The remainder can include water, bone, organs, connective tissue, and muscle.
Formula and worked example
Fat mass = weight x body fat / 100.
Estimated lean body mass = weight - fat mass.
At 80 kg and 20% entered body fat: fat mass is 16 kg and estimated lean body mass is 64 kg.
