Fuel Cost Calculator
Estimate the cost of fuel for your next trip.

Enter the values and review the result.
Calculation assumptions
- *Fuel needed is calculated as distance divided by fuel efficiency.
- *Trip cost is estimated as fuel needed multiplied by fuel price per gallon.
- *Real cost can change with traffic, route, vehicle load, terrain, driving style, and fuel price changes.
Enter your values and press Calculate.
Results and breakdowns will appear here after a valid calculation.
How fuel cost is calculated
Fuel cost uses a simple trip formula: gallons needed = distance / MPG, then trip cost = gallons needed x fuel price.
Example: a 120-mile trip at 30 MPG uses 4 gallons. If fuel costs $3.50 per gallon, the estimated fuel cost is $14.00.
Assumptions and common mistakes
This is a planning estimate. Your actual fuel use can change with stop-and-go traffic, hills, weather, vehicle load, tire pressure, idling, detours, and fuel price changes.
- Do not enter zero MPG because fuel cost cannot be calculated without efficiency.
- Use round-trip distance if you want the cost for going there and back.
- Use your real average MPG when possible, not only the best highway estimate.
- Remember that parking, tolls, maintenance, and depreciation are not included.

Accuracy and limitations
Calzivo tools are built for practical estimates, conversions, and checks. Some tools use standard formulas or simplified assumptions, and results can be affected by input accuracy, rounding, units, local rules, or changing official requirements.
Results depend on the values you enter and any simplified assumptions used by the tool. Verify important results before making decisions or submitting official information.
How to Use This Tool
Use these steps to enter the right inputs and interpret the result correctly.
Enter the total distance of your trip.
Enter your vehicle's average fuel efficiency (MPG).
Enter the current price of fuel per gallon.
The tool will calculate the total cost and fuel required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Fuel Cost Calculator and how to read the result.
How do I find my MPG?
You can check your car's dashboard or divide the miles driven by the gallons used during your last fill-up.
What is the fuel cost formula?
Fuel cost = distance / MPG x fuel price per gallon.
Should I use city or highway MPG?
Use the MPG that best matches your trip. Mixed routes usually need a realistic average.
Does this include tolls or parking?
No. It only estimates fuel cost. Tolls, parking, maintenance, and vehicle wear are separate costs.
Why can real fuel cost differ?
Traffic, route, weather, terrain, vehicle load, driving style, and fuel price changes can all affect cost.
Can I use this with another currency?
Yes. The math works with any currency if you enter the local fuel price per gallon.
